Sinsir: NOW she was just being unfair. He caught onto the carol she was trying to hum and hummed with her, filling in the bits that she forgot. Together they walked down his father's street and made their way to the main square, a street full of light cobblestone, the snow all swept to the side, lined with bright glowing shops with merry merchandise filling the windows, red, gold, and green calligraphic letters painstakingly painted onto each sign. They strolled along as he saw shops that sold ornaments, shops that sold cards, shops that sold toys, shops that sold treats, and every shop in between.
"Where would you like to go first?" he asked, hand still resting on her waist.

Annice couldn't help but smile even more brightly when he hummed with her. She was learning! Now just to figure out the words...
"Oh! I don't know if I could possibly choose!" she exclaimed, eyes wide now that she remembered the beauty of Christmas town and not just the handsomeness of her boyfriend. Her flickering eyes gave her away though- she was eyeing the teddy bear store they'd gone to before and the ornament shop with almost equal fervor. She subconsciously moved closer him as a chilly wind blew past them, and when she realized she looked up to make sure it was alright. He certainly didn't seem to mind.

Sinsir: As she scooted closer to him he moved his hand, going from her waist to wrap all the way around her. He rubbed her arm slightly to help her warm up, smiling down at her. With her enormous golden eyes, he couldn't get over how cute she was in her winter gear. Her coat's ruffles went all the way up to her neck, framing her jaw in clouds.
He forced himself to focus on what was going on around him. The bear shop or the ornament shop. He grinned, squeezing her lightly and steering her towards the ornaments.
"We already went to the bear one, would it be alright to go somewhere new?" he asked, just to be sure she didn't actually have any preference.

Annice: She actually didn't realize how he knew where she'd wanted to go! Amazing how he did that...!
"Oh, of course!" She nodded quickly. "If I'm being honest, I'd like to see as much of the town as possible!" They moved actually fairly well in sync, especially considering how close they were to each other (that made it harder to walk- Annice felt like that was such a shame!), and they made it into the ornament shop (Seriously, how did she know? Was her face that obvious?).
A bit reluctantly, she untangled herself from him and moved to a section of intricate snowflake ornaments- eyes wide as dinner plates as she moved. They were all so finely crafted- as was everything in this town, apparently! Even Sinsir! Especially Sinsir! "In all my years," she breathed, "I've never understood it...!" She didn't clarify-- too awestruck by the display.

Sinsir: He smiled at her as she moved into the shop and made a cryptic comment. As though she had so many years in her in the first place. He moved about the shop freely, keeping an eye on what caught her interest the most. He looked at the ornaments around him, all delicate clay painted bright. He picked up a simple gingerbread man and smiled at it, counting the gumdrop buttons. Three - correct. He carried it with him as he walked along, watching out for what Annice was doing.

Annice was flitting through the aisles and lingering to look at nearly everything. She paused on a Christmas shepherdess holding a white, very fluffy sheep in her arms. "Oh my goodness??" she said under her breath as she looked at it. "That's me???" Could she be a Christmas shepherdess instead of an Easter shepherdess??? Could she be both maybe??? Was that a thing? She was suddenly very emotional while looking at this ornament. She pried her eyes away only to find very tiny nativity scenes with shepherds with sheep. She actually knew this story, surprisingly, and it had only occurred to her then that Christmas was... you know. Christmas! Not... Santamas? Santaclausmas? Though the town seemed to be themed that way. She had a lot of emotion building up inside her all of a sudden and she hoped Sinsir wouldn't find her while she was crying (a little!!!) about shepherds in Christmas going to see a tiny baby Savior.

Sinsir: Seeing what looked like distress building steadily in Annice's face, he made his way hurriedly over.
"Is everything alright?" he asked, trying to find what she was looking at. "Oh," he said with a soft smile. "Yes, those are precious. Do you like them?" It was pretty clear she did, from the way she was staring at them, her hands held tightly to her face. He had the feeling that if she asked for anything with those eyes, he would be unable to say no.

Annice nodded, well aware if she spoke her voice would crack. She was trying NOT to cry right now- she was trying very hard! But a few tears ended up on her cheeks anyway. Christmas and Easter really were alike??? Just. Also very different.
She cleared her throat, worried she may be making Sinsir worry. She didn't like the worry-cycle!! Her voice did crack at first, but she was able to speak eventually.
"I'm sorry, I'm fine, I promise." She wiped at one of the tears and looked at Sinsir with a watery smile. "I'm just discovering how much I love Christmas," she said quietly, turning her gaze back to the ornaments.

Sinsir: He started in shock as he saw her begin to cry, his eyes going wide. What? This was not acceptable! This was not... permissable.
"Hey, hey," he said, taking her face quickly in his hands. He carefully framed her cheeks, wiping at her tears with his thumbs. "Please don't! Nothing is worth that." He kissed her cheeks, although all he really accomplished was getting his licorice lips sticky. When the tears stopped, he sighed and kissed her forehead. He carefully picked up the ornaments she had been looking at. "Come on," he said, putting his free arm around her shoulder. He knew that she had just been overemotional, but he still thought it may be best to get her out of the shop. He stopped by the cashier and purchased the gingerbread ornament, the shepherdess, and the nativity scene. The cashier happily wrapped them in tissue paper, giving Annice a sympathetic look. Sinsir took the bag and led her out of the shop.

Annice: She was brought out of her tears quite quickly once he started tending to her!! The blush on her cheeks was flaring up and despite the cold around them she felt very, very warm because of it. She put her hands up to her cheeks, momentarily forgetting that water + Sinsir = not a good thing and that he was hurting himself (if only a little tiny bit!) by wiping her tears away. She would remember soon, but now was not that time.
She couldn't help but giggle nervously! "I'm sorry!! I'm quite sorry, really. I just hadn't realized until today how much I love you."
It took her a few silent seconds to realize her mistake.
"I-I MEAN CHRISTMAS! How much I love Christmas! Or, or maybe you. Or... or... maybe both. I..." She covered her face with her hands, as she felt herself going much redder than she'd already been. Did she mean that??? Well, she supposed she did!! They had been out exactly 9 times previous to this and yet she felt more attached to him than... really anyone else! But she hadn't meant to say it!! Or maybe she had???
?? ?? ?? ??
After a few short moments (it felt like a lifetime to her!!!) of internal reflection, she said it again into her hands. "I love you."

Sinsir: He froze in the street, her hand still curled inside his. He looked down at her, marveling at her. He reached a hand up, gently brushing his fingers through her golden hair, sweeping it out of her face. He rubbed his thumb around her cheek, circling her freckles. He had never heard those words before from a non-family member. And he took it very seriously.
Love was not trifling to him. To say he loved someone - he was promising that person something. It meant more than intense affection. It meant that he held them higher than himself, and that he wanted to devote a part of his life to them.
And for this person, for Annice, his angel, his light. He knew that he would give her significantly more than a part of his life. He would dedicate every moment of every day to her. He would do anything to make her smile, to hear that bell-like laugh. To make those cheeks glow with joy and self consciousness.
He bent down and kissed her carefully on the lips, slowly and softly. He didn't feel anything physically, but a strong warm feeling rose in his chest, a feeling that seemed to expand him. He thought it would burst through his chest, but instead he just pulled away from the kiss and stroked her face again.
"I love you, too." he said with a smile.

Annice: And that was it for Annice.
Sinsir wasn't the most emotional person- not like she- and she was aware of that. But she saw something in him in that moment, that seemed like... she could only describe it as a light. A warm, bright light that she knew could warm her on a snowy day, make her long for the sun less when she was in Christmas town, and bring out the sun when it was rainy. She knew it, and she knew he wanted to do those things for her. She knew at that moment- and not a moment before- that she would rather spend her entire lifetime with no one other than him. That he was the only one in Christmas, Easter, or any other holiday, in any other place beyond that and in any other world outside of theirs that could make her wholly and irrevocably happy. And though she may have had her suspicions of that subconsciously, it had never occurred to her consciously, subconsciously or otherwise that she could be enough for him.
But now she felt like it was possible- and more importantly, she prayed it was. She'd always had shoes to fill- first, her mother's, then her father's out in the fields. Later, the role of a teacher and mentor, a good citizen, almost a paragon, but these shoes felt bigger. Somehow, they fit better. Though she was no stranger to love in general, she was certainly a stranger to this form of love- and though it seemed a bit daunting, it also made her feel whole.
"I'm glad," she said quietly, gazing up at him. The blush lingered on her cheeks, though it had died down a bit, and the winter wind blew her hair around her face in tiny locks. "Thank you."
It seemed silly for someone to say 'thank you' when someone else said they loved you too, but she was just... so grateful. She couldn't help it. She felt like maybe her life could begin and he had given her the freedom necessary for it to.

Sinsir: He laughed and kissed her on her forehead. It wasn't enough for him, so he slid down and kissed her on her temple and her cheek, holding both of her hands.
"Thank you," he whispered back, resting his forehead against hers. He stood back straight, lacing his fingers through hers snugly, smiling so widely he felt his licorice might tear. "I think I know exactly where we should go next," he said, setting off with a light step, swinging their arms.

Annice: After such affection being laid upon her and she was feeling positively loved, Annice gasped! What was with her and delayed reactions today?! No matter! She couldn't recall hearing him laugh before...!! He was just very reserved and formal most of the time- not much room for laughter there!!! She got hung up on it. What a nice laugh!!!! It was... sophisticated somehow. A sophisticated laugh! Imagine that!
She hopped up and down a few times as they walked, positively brimming with joy. What a nice laugh!! she thought to herself over and over. She made a vow to hear him laugh more often. Too hung up on it, she didn't even ask where they were going. She would follow him to the ends of the earth anyway, so it didn't much matter!

Sinsir: He watched her bounce and laughed again, just a little. "Are you alright, snow angel?" he asked, squeezing her hand playfully. He still felt light and happier than he had in his entire memory. He strolled down the streets, clearly proud to have her on his arm.
He finally found the shop he was looking for, at the end corner of the merchant district, where the street merged into the personal residences of the Claus family. The word Jewelry was written in intricate script on the sign over the glass doors. The inside was brightly lit and white tiled, with cases upon cases of glittering jewels. As they walked up, a man in tails opened the door for them, sending a happy jingle through the air. Sinsir led her inside before she could say anything, warm air embracing them like a cloud, soft music suffusing the store.
