Haar: He jolted a bit when Cain touched his back. "A-ah, yes!" He hoped that was the right answer, he didn't actually hear his question. Seeing it offend Prudence (or at least, he thought it did?) he carefully looked down at the table and was sure to get a seat next to Cain. Sitting, he awkwardly clasped his hands on the table in front of him. He hoped it wouldn't be too awkward! He didn't realize how...unused to this sort of setting he was.

Bernadette pulled the pan out of the oven, thankful they had finished in a good amount of time, and placed it on the table on the opposite side of the Shepherd's pie. She hopped up on her chair (quite literally, everything in Rufus's house was built for someone his height) and looked over at Prudence who had folded her arms in front of her.
"Bernadette, would you say grace, please?"
Bernadette nodded. "Father in Heaven, we are grateful for the day, the food and our company. Please bless the food and the hands that prepared it, and please bless our friends when it comes time for them to go, Amen."
Cain and Prudence muttered a quiet 'Amen,' in echo before Prudence began cutting into the pie and serving it, guests first, to everyone at the table. She glanced at the steaks and gave Bernadette a confused look, but Bernadette was already taking her first bite. She was proud that it tasted great! Now just to see if their guests would like it...
Cain did, and said so in a bright tone after he finished chewing and swallowing. He then turned to Haar curiously. Everyone at the table did at once, really. Had they realized they might not have put him on the spot like that, but all were far too curious.

Haar: He kept his hands clasped, and started at Bernadette as she started the prayer. Halfway through, he remembered, you're not supposed to keep your eyes open!!! Extremely embarrassed, he closed his one eye. He was weary of the other though, and didn't hear a word from her mouth due to his racing thoughts. Hearing Cain and Prudence, he quickly muttered "Amen!" just a fraction of a second too late. He was sure not to take up too much space, and was cautious of every part of his body. Still, something irked him. He looked down at all of the silverware he was expected to use. Which ones did what?! Sweet Jack this was over the top, wasn't it?? Faintly, however, he remembered something, and let his mind wander for a moment...
...He had been in a familiar predicament before!! He was eating at a table very much like this one, with very similar smells...and across from him was someone he really cared about, but he couldn't remember her face...but she did almost resemble Bernadette, in a way! She was reminding him that you start from the outside, and work your way to the inside...
He slowly grabbed a fork and knife before realizing all of the glances. His shoulders defensively raised and he gave them a weak smile and a quick nod. He hadn't been asked a question...right? Haar quickly cut a piece of food-really whatever was on his plate, he wasn't too sure how it even got there, and smiled and nodded. Please stop staring at me... If was quite good, though! Although he wasn't hungry in the least, the smell was enough to make him cut another bite.

A collective sigh of relief sounded around the table and everyone went back to their food. Bernadette, who was apparently some sort of bottomless pit, finished her first slice of pie and reached for another piece and for a steak. Prudence raised an eyebrow but said nothing as she cut another piece of the pie on her plate, carving it so carefully that it was as if how she placed it on the fork was essential to how it tasted. She glanced across the table at the empty chair as she chewed. Had Rufus been here, he would have known that she thought the meat was a tad bit under-seasoned just by the way she tilted her head. She sighed after she swallowed.
Turning to Bernadette who was continuing to shovel in food so quickly that it was a wonder she didn't have a single speck of food on the table, on her hoodie or on her face, she asked, "How was the attic?"
Bernadette smiled and said, "Uneventful. But nice." She glanced up at Haar knowingly. Prudence saw and took note of the glance, but said nothing. "So, Mr. Grimm," she said, looking for some other conversation topic, "I hear you're a fan of art. What kind? Or is it just all art?"

Haar: His eye flicked back down at his own plate, completely embarrassed. In all honesty, through the meal's duration, he hardly even tasted the food. Instead he was concerned with making sure his knife and fork never made a sound, and making sure he took a drink every few bites so that he matched the ratio of what Cain had, because he was confident Cain knew what he was doing! He ate food to match the speed of the others- until finally he decided he just COULDN'T POSSIBLY keep up with Bear Niece there... Thankfully Cain was much slower.
As he finished, he removed the napkin from his lap and carefully put it back on the table, careful not to crease or ruin it. At the mention of the attic, he gave Bernadette a light worried smile. Seeing as she covered for him, he silently sighed in relief and looked down at his hands, unsure of what to really do with them.
He jolted up as Prudence talked and gave her a smile filled with false confidence. "Ah- art in general! Mostly paintings and the like, yes, but theatrics holds my interest, as well!! In HalloweenTown performance art is quite common, of course, and..." He tried to think of words to fill the empty air, "...It runs in my family, one could say!" His hands still laid clenched in his lap. "I take it Rufus and yourself are quite keen to it as well? Your paintings are beautiful!"

Prudence: "Oh, yes!" She crossed her fork and knife on her empty plate and pressed her napkin on her mouth a few times before setting it down. "Actually, I painted many of the pieces here myself." She looked around for a moment and pointed to one in particular behind them of the founders in front of the holiday doors. "That one I did probably a decade ago."
Bernadette, having eaten probably what was half of the food at the table, crossed her fork and knife on her plate as well before placing her napkin on top of it and sipping her drink. Cain followed suit, but he stood and asked, "Shall I do the dinner dishes so we can be out of your-- I mean... on our way?" He corrected himself when Prudence looked up at him, a look of warning on her face. She really wasn't good at looking intimidating in the slightest, but Cain could feel when someone was annoyed or upset with him easily enough.
"It's not necessary! We can do them." She stood and began collecting plates- Bernadette did too, leaving the set place at the end of the table alone. They went into the kitchen and the sound of dishwashing could be heard. Cain glanced over at Haar. "I know you're itching for a better look," he said, pulling on his suit jacket that he'd draped over the back of the chair. "Go ahead."

Haar: His eyebrows raised, "You painted these yourself? Oh!" He turned to see the painting she referred to and then looked back towards her, "It's very lovely!!" He started at it for a moment, and then followed Cain, and put his silverware in the same fashion. He prayed that he had done it correctly, it looked to be the kind of thing that's very particular. He blinked as Bernadette took his plate and vanished with Prudence.
He sighed in the relief. Today had been quite eventful, hadn't it? He turned to Cain and was taken back a bit. "Are you sure?" He started to get up and approached him for a moment, and quietly added, "They won't be offended, then?" Seeing Cain's approval, he turned and approached the painting carefully.
He studied it for a moment. It was amazing how few times Haar had actually visited the doors; ever since he moved into the academy he found he hadn't had much reason to visit HalloweenTown, with the exception of moving art, and visiting Aunt Sally during the war. He folded his arms and tilted his head. The other founders looked so odd to him. He recognized the idea of them, sure! When he was alive he often read through folktales and the like in hopes of finding more about his father...But to see them portrayed as actual living things still seemed a bit silly to him. Even the idea of his old uncle, now as a walking, singing skeleton, seemed so far off! His eyebrows then lowered, that would be him eventually, too, wouldn't it? He very well could be on some real world page being turned by a real world person, in a real world fairytale that's spoken to children so they fall asleep.
He turned on his heel back to Cain. "Well, enough of that, my Candied Friend! What's next on our agenda?"

Cain: He laughed. "Next on the agenda is going home," he said, referring to the Academy. It was his home, as far as he was concerned! His house, though nice, was much too lonely to be considered a home. "I'm quite tired, and I know you've been fighting off falling asleep since we got here. Empath, remember?" he said with a wink, fiddling with his (broken-lensed) glasses as he did. "But we won't have to walk or float, unless you want to." He had a shortcut to the Academy no matter where they were!

Haar: He closed his eye for a moment and tilted his head. "I'm quite exhausted, it's true! I'm aware,my friend." He laughed lightly and looked over to the kitchen. "Should we say our goodbyes first? And... I'm always fine with a shortcut!" Especially now! Pleeaaseeee. "Home sounds so very nice."

Cain: He nodded and made his way to the kitchen where he hugged Prudence and picked up Bernadette, lifting her in the air for a moment before setting her down. She looked ruffled, but she didn't look upset or annoyed.
"Thank you all so much for sharing your home with us this evening. We'll be on our way now! Do give Rufus my best," he said, looking at Prudence knowingly as he did. She sighed but smiled and nodded. "Of course, Cain. You know you're always welcome! We enjoy the company." Bernadette didn't agree or disagree, too concerned with stacking the plates.

Haar: Feeling quite awkward, he smiled at them. "I...uh, ah! Thank you for having us, yes!" He patiently waited for Bernadette to finish stacking the plates. "And, oh, farewell, Bear Niece!! Thank you both for showing my your art, it's very appreciated! You really MUST visit my castle sometime!!!"

Bernadette: She turned toward Haar after fussing with the plates for probably a good minute and nodded. She actually did kind of want to visit! She was pretty scared of visiting, but she figured if Haar was there she'd be okay. "Yes. Of course, Uncle Haar!" She stepped forward and hugged him around his midsection briefly before returning to her stool and waving at them.
"Come back soon!" Prudence said as Cain headed for the door of the kitchen. "Of course!" he called back. When they neared the front door, Cain sighed with a smile. "Well, you ready?" he asked, reaching his hand into his pocket.

Haar: His eye widened at the hug, and he gave her a quick pat before she scurried off. He followed Cain out, quite quickly, and sighed with him. "Very ready!"

Cain: He took out a small snowglobe with a miniature version of the Academy inside, the windows glowing orange for the approaching Halloween season, and reached out for Haar's hand before shaking it several times. A cloud of snow flurries surrounded them and before they could register that they were being whisked away, they stood in front of the Academy.
"Well," Cain said, releasing Haar's hand, "That was... certainly eventful." He looked over at his friend a bit sadly. "I'm sorry for all of that. I truly am." He didn't need to clarify what he was referring to, he knew. He also knew that Haar was past it, but he felt the need to say it anyway. Haar seemed so very weary.

Haar: He tensed as he was covered with snow. Maybe they uh...should have flown! However, the whole thing was over rather quickly, he supposed, so all was good! He put a hand to his temple and rubbed it, a nap was in his near future, he predicted!
He looked over to Cain, concerned. He gave his friend a weary smile for a moment. He thought of a few wise things (and many more not as wise things!) that he could say to that, but thought, ah, forget it!
He pulled Cain in for a hug and held him tightly for a moment. That would work, he deemed! If he had to guess, he would say Cain probably favored hugs to talking anyway, hahahahaha!
