Cain laughed! He supposed he shouldn't mention any of the other... not-quite-legal things he did, or how he was nearly on the naughty list one year...! She was probably looking to date someone more... responsible than that.
"For the most part, I'm afraid my school years were quite boring! Sitting in the back, taking notes, learning magic, those sorts of things," he said, waving his hand before taking a couple bites. "My high school years were more... um," how should he phrase it? "Full of surprises, but that's neither here nor there!" He looked around for a moment before lowering his voice. "Did you hear about how long I used magic to appear older than I actually am? I did it nearly my entire life until a few years ago!" He'd rather get into THAT than admit he was the embarrassment of the family for a couple years of school!

Alice: She nodded and smiled as he talked, quite sure she had read him completely accurate up until the point he had a secret to share?? How curious!!! She leaned into closer with a mischievous smile on her face! Predictability was always good and fun, but it was the rough edges and visible seems that were interesting!! Of course, she wouldn't wager to admit that, but she couldn't help being excited!!
"Older than you actually are?? Whyyy, Mr. Kandi," she teased, "I DO believe I read somewhere that that is against your rules!" Her voice was in a lighthearted whisper as well! It wasn't like she could not read everything she could find about his town prior, and luckily, Mr. Cornelius had a great lot of books he wasn't using/wouldn't notice missing!!
She laughed and wiped her mouth again. Goodness, she had cleaned her plate so quickly!! She tried to shift focus from her dashingly white and clean plate; "What made you stop after all of that time?"

Cain frowned slightly, but was able to perk up a bit after that. "Someone... not unlike yourself, helped me see I didn't have to be anyone other than myself," he said. Realizing that was a little bit silly (and cheesy, wow, very cheesy), he laughed a bit. "Plus, you know! It's against the rules!"
He took a few more bites and and took another drink, maybe making his food disappear a little bit faster than he was eating it so she wouldn't feel bad (magic that was benefitting someone else, of course! Or at least he liked to think so!). "But yes! For a while there I looked more like.. Oh, 45 or 50? Most Kringles do look older like that, but not me!" He'd embraced it!

She chewed her lip as he spoke, both catching what he said, but also feeling a ping of guilt that it was most likely a sore subject, and that she really should have picked that up sooner! She did for a moment there that she was also an empath, really!
She fidgeted with her coffee, almost embarrassed that she was done so quickly but moreso just overwhelmed to still taste food!! She noticed that his plate seemed clearer, was that magic? She gave him a small smile and raised an eyebrow as she had more coffee; quite sneaky for a candy man! Still, it was a nice gesture, and she appreciated it!!
She ran her thumbs over the mug's rim and gave him a more genuine smile, "Weeeell, Mr. Kandi, I like you the way you are!" As smooth as ever!! Although, she couldn't help but to think how fine he probably looked with just a little more gray hair!!

Cain actually blushed a little at that, and ran a hand through his hair a bit nervously. He took a sip of his cocoa before deciding on what to say.
"I like you the way you are too, Miss Alice," he finally decided. Even if he sometimes got odd feelings that she was hiding something or being deceiving, he couldn't help but enjoy her company! He could only hope they were white lies and not about something important- otherwise, he could have possibly been heading for disaster. But that wasn't important right now, because it didn't feel like she was lying when she said that- she felt as sincere as a person could be.
"Anyway," he said, clearing his throat and setting his napkin on the plate in front of him. "Is there anything you've always wanted to do in Christmas Town, or is it up to me to decide?" he asked with a crooked smile. He honestly wasn't trying to tease, but he'd be perfectly fine going about their outing either way, despite any plans he'd already made! "After dessert, of course. But we can have that here or elsewhere." He'd even be willing to have coffee with his dessert- as long as he could add cream and sugar, after all. It was so bitter!! Maybe he'd have a mocha instead.

She rested her head on her hands and thought for a moment, "Ohhh, I don't know! I want to do everything! But not necessarily today!" She smiled, "Show me the best things, then! Your favorite things!" Alice was already quite excited; the entire town already seemed so lovely and charming, really!
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a black bird pecking at a closed window across the room, and she stared at it for a minute before turning back to Cain, her curls following behind. "Let's get out of here!" She said, and took his hand, "Show me more, okay?" She sounded younger than ever!

Cain couldn't argue with that! He grasped her hand and squeezed it a bit before leaving what he knew to be the correct change plus a generous tip on the table before waving at the owner and exiting with his date!
"I'd be honored to show you the best of Christmas Town!" he exclaimed when they were outside. "Though forgive me if it runs a little long!" He was sure to leave some of the 'bests' off the list in his head while mentally deciding, though, because he didn't want her to get bored of the town immediately! He wanted to be sure he had a few extra dates lined up, in case all went well.
He lead her toward a quaint teddy bear shop and opened the door for her, bells jingling on the way inside. Unsure if his sister was here at the moment, he went straight toward the 'skins', or rather, the fluffy exteriors of the bears just before you got to the stuffing station. Every kind of bear one could imagine was there, including gingerbears, candybears, shepherd and shepherdess bears, tinier 'elf' bears, and every color from polar to black.
"Let's make you a bear!" he said, smiling widely. "Unless of course, that's too childish of an activity for you?" he asked, only somewhat seriously. "There's always the door if you think so!"

Alice entered the cozy shop- so cute!! Awweee, was he going to show him maybe some of his nieces or nephews or- Oh! They were here to make bears. For themselves! Which wasn't weird! Right? Not weird? Maybe a little weird. But she could roll with that! Right?
She leaned on a counter and took it all in before she nodded (just a little hesitant!) "Oh! I.... Yes of course! A bear would be lovely! I haven't had a bear since I was a child," She laughed, "I believe it was made completely out of a corn sack, actually! Very rough, but very quirky!" She giggled as she considered adding that to her resume.
Her heels clicked as she approached all the colors of the bear flesh (?). Reskinning sounded a bit like taxidermy! Kid taxidermy! What a great business idea, she wagered! Probably not very popular in Christmas Town but... In Halloween town.... She tried not to gravitate towards the black ones, and eventually settled on a dark purple one with a beautiful regal texture.
"How many of these do you have?" She laughed, lightheartedly. "I can't imagine your bed is completely full of them?" She tucked her hair behind her ear before looking back up at him, her face almost a little red, "Ah...Not... that I'm imaging your bed, or... or any bed! For that matter!" She bit her lip and looked away a little ways. Way to go Alice, she thought, way to make it awkward! "Sooo...where would the bear guts- Ah-a, stuffing, be! Stuffing. For the turke- for the bear. The bear." She was on a downward spiral!
"I'm really having a great time!" She assured, despite her babbling! "Really!" Even if I sound crazy, she thought!
