Alice: She inhaled! It was wonderful; you'd think one from her town wasn't easily impressed by food but...living in the forest you don't get many homecooked meals! Or...anything other than carrion, in her case... But she wouldn't dwell on that, she decided!
"Oh!" The workers here were just as small as the one's in Cain's factory! So cute! Still, didn't that put them at a disadvantage? Unless all of their utensils were elf-sized. Their ovens must be adorable, then! While Cain led her to their table, she couldn't help but to look back at the litter waiter several times. His whole family must be cute! A small little wife, small children, small little pets and beds and stoves! She wanted to see what their houses looked like!!
"Thank you, kind sir!" She laughed as he helped her with seating. As many novels she has read, being treated as a princess in person topped it!!
She took her napkin and folded it gently in her lap, and grinned back. "Well, yes and no! I've had dinner on Christmas, but it was simply a Thanksgiving dinner, at that!" Not saying that was simple in the least, haha! "I take it Rufus has already shared a Thanksgiving dinner with you?" She wondered how much of Thanksgiving Town she could actually show him that would be new!
She did know that, remarkably, he was no stranger to leaf piles...

Cain thought for a moment. He'd eaten dinner there many times, yes, but he wasn't sure if any of them were the full Thanksgiving meal that he knew Rufus would serve up. Especially lately, he'd been eating with Prudence and Bernadette, mostly.
"He's shared many a dinner with me, of that you can be certain, but I can't say it was ever a turkey-and-stuffing, the-full-nine-yards Thanksgiving dinner. Not that it needed to be! He always cooks a small feast, as I'm sure you can imagine." He laughed a bit before also placing his own napkin in his lap, being careful not to put his elbows on the table. He always got nervous when in the presence of Thanksgiving residents when it came to proper table etiquette...!
Their server arrived, and though they weren't even taller than the table, they managed to see them and converse with them while standing on a stool they likely just carried around.
"Hello, hello! Thank you for coming to Bethlehem eatery! I'll be your server today. Would you like to see a menu, or would you just like the house special?" he asked politely.
Cain spoke up, and with a sideways glance at Alice, he said, "Yes, the house special would be lovely, with an egg nog, if you could, for me. And, whatever Miss Alice would like." He turned his attention to her and the waiter nodded happily as he scribbled something down on his small notepad.

Alice: She nodded. OH NO. She had hoped-if Rufus had done ANYTHING- it would have been show Cain a proper turkey dinner. Alice, as much as she tried, could not cook to save her life. Oh, how her mother would be so disappointed, but maybe she could trick Cain into going to a restaurant on Thanksgiving?? Maybe he didn't know how blasphemous THAT was... She chewed her lip nervously. "Oh, I'm sure! As much food as he grows, he really ought to...!" Too close!!! She looked down at the table for a moment. "It's common knowledge he was one of the most impressive farmlands in the entire town!" Anndddd, saved! Phew~
Alice almost giggled at the cute little server. Did his wife and kids have little stools too??? Too cute! She smiled at Cain, and looked down at the little waiter. "I'll be having the house special too!" Please be vegetarian. Please. "And also a t-" She stopped herself. Cain had just recently started to supply tea in his factory, hadn't he?? How rude it would have been if she then had some HERE before there!! "A coffee would be lovely, thank you." Another close call!!

After the server nodded, thanked them and picked up his stool before trotting away, Cain, looking very amused, nodded his head toward the front counter. The man went behind it (you could just see his bobbing head) before coming back and being followed by his wife and his three tiny children who proceeded to follow him into the kitchen, all with bright smiles on their faces. At the end of the line, a little girl turned to see them and waved before trotting off into the kitchen behind her family. Cain couldn't help but chuckle, as used to the town as he was.
"Anyway," he said after a moment, "Other than read, teach and drink tea, what do you do for fun? Or is it just those three?" It had occurred to him very recently that he'd never seen her do anything other than those things...! Not that he was one to talk. He mostly just.... read, taught... and drank hot cocoa. "Not that I could blame you if it was," he amended after this thought came to him.

Alice: She rested her head on her palm and started to gaze around the restaurant until she noticed the miraculous display of the mini family, and couldn't help but to gawk!! Her eyes flickered back down to the table, feeling extremely rude, but also immensely pleased! I knew it.
She crossed her hands in her lap and thought for a moment. "Oh, I do a lot really! For instance..." She paused for a moment. What else DID she do? Oh you know, eat dead animals and rotten fruit, roll in some dirt, the usual lady things! "Well, I do sew quite a bit! Most of what I wear is handmade, actually, other than gifts here and there. I..." She chewed her lip, "...I like to grow plants, too! In all honesty, I live off the land, or, I used to before moving into the academy. Oh, and I play the violin! Quite masterfully, if I do say so myself! I've been playing it since I was four, actually. I know some piano and other things here and there, but the violin is by far my favorite! I also cook---" She stopped herself. Okay, he would DEFINITELY see through that one!! "---Crystal meth, actually!! Only when times are tough, though!"
She paused for a moment as if what she said was completely normal, and then started to laugh and covered her mouth; "I kid, I kid! I promise, I would never!" She leaned over the table. "Between you and me, however, I can't cook to save my life! Keep that from Mr. Cornelius, please!! I will never hear the end of it!" She brushed some hair from her hair. "How about you? Other than emulate candy, I'm sure you're very interesting!"

Cain, though momentarily perplexed, laughed in the end. He laughed again when she turned the subject on him.
"I'm afraid I don't do much else! I consider myself a bit of a baker, and I suppose I know my way around in a kitchen- One of my majors was confectionery, so once you learn how to make candy and the like you can learn savory stuff fairly easily. Beyond that, my factory and the academy I... don't do much, I'm afraid! I write a little, I suppose." He was being modest. In all honesty, he didn't consider himself much of a writer or a baker, but others would say otherwise. "I'm an open book," he admitted just before the elf returned with Cain's egg nog and Alice's coffee. Cain thanked him quietly as the man hopped off his footstool and picked it up before scurrying off again.

Alice: Oh thank God, she thought, at least someone here could cook!! Other than...the staff, of course!! And seemingly the entire elf population. Either way, Alice was preeettty used to being pretty much the only lesser chef in the entire town, that much was for sure!!! She put a hand up to her chin. "Interesting! An open book, you say?" That was a fun invitation! "Thank you!" She politely said as she took the coffee in front of her and swirled it around for a moment. She took a few sugar packets and the like from their table and started to mix it in.
She leaned forward to Cain as they drank, "All right, I have some questions then!!" She chewed her lip excitedly! "Favorite color? Obviously white and red, but maybe there's another? Oooh, maybe black? Deep purple? Or not! How about your favorite read? Tell me it isn't 'A Visit from St. Nicolas' by Moore?? It is, isn't it?" She laughed, but went on, fast as ever, "Hmmm, what else? How did you end up headmaster? I'm not saying you aren't a perfect fit, but out of curiosity!" Her voice rolled over 'curiosity' unintentionally out of habit! "Any pets? You strike me as a cat person! I figure someone like yourself would be beyond average pets though, hm? How about... Where did you get your last name from? Is confection your familys' business, then? Also, forgive me, honestly! I really, really have to ask...Were you named after your dress or did you choose the dress from your name?" She raised an eyebrow and gave him a villainous smile.

Cain, though overwhelmed by her barrage of questions, concentrated and attempted to answer them all. "Red, though I have a fondness for blue, especially as of late. And I'm afraid that you're right! That's most certainly one of them! Though there's a certain read I looked at very recently with flowers pressed in the pages that I'm very fond of and have read twice." He continued immediately, not giving her any time to react. "When Mr. Claus asked me to be a teacher, I ended up doing most of the work, as I tend to do, and it just sort of. Happened! I do enjoy cats, yes, but..." He looked around and leaned in closer. "I may or may not have a large... winter-type.... bear-like.... animal in my room at the Academy," he whispered before winking. "As for my name, I'm quite certain one of my ancestors picked it out. We've been long-time candy people! I majored in confectionery and education, myself. I help Scotty- my brother- in his business, but I mostly just make the hard candy occasionally and give him recipes! He's perfectly capable of running the family business on his own." He nodded and then laughed! "My family has... a thing about naming their children silly things like that to go with our last name. My sister's name is Gamora Bear Kandi- we call her gummy- and my brother, who I previously mentioned, is named Butre Scotch Kandi-- aha, you guessed it. After gummy bears and Butterscotch. My sister runs a teddy bear shop and my brother runs the family candy shop, like I mentioned. I'm the oddball, really! But yes, we all kind of ended up... embracing our names, so to say, except for my brother, who dresses quite normally considering his name and profession." He nodded, satisfied with his answers. It was at this time that their meal was brought out and their glasses refreshed.
The meal consisted of a ham- but had a wide variety of vegetables and fruits, not to mention starches, like beautifully buttered rolls, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, and other things! If you'd ever seen it in a Christmas dinner, it was there! Cain decided to let Alice take it all in before reaching out for a server himself.
"Will you be needing anything else?" the elf father asked them. Cain shook his head and thanked him, and he and his family filed back into the kitchen and behind the counter, all with their stools in hand. Cain grinned crookedly at the retreating family before grinning at Alice as well.
"Well, what do you think?" he asked.

Alice: She held her head up with her palm and nodded closely! She was a wonderful listener, one of those people who rarely forgot anything they had ever heard!! Sadly, she DID forget her own manners, and by the time the food was brought out, both of her elbows were on the table. If she even noticed, she would have been extremely embarrassed!
She stopped dead when she saw all of the food in front of them--- she was expecting---she didn't know what she was expecting, but it certainty was not all of...this...
She couldn't help but to lower her eyebrows, not in anger but mere confusion. She hadn't seen this much edible food in years! Ever sense she came down with her curse she obviously had not taken part in Thanksgiving dinners but this... it was almost too much. It was a small Thanksgiving feast but without awkward family confrontation---she didn't know you could have one without the other!!
She tucked her hair behind her ears and looked back up at Cain, very unsure. "There's...there's so much food." She shook her head left to right, but eventually gave into a nervous laugh, "I just, I wasn't expecting this!! I suppose you do take a lot after Rufus, then?"

Cain laughed!! "Well, Thanksgiving and Christmas aren't too different, if you think about it! Other than the season." He nodded to himself and looked at her while she admired the spread.
"Well, go on!" he said encouragingly. "I don't know how it works in other holidays, but in Christmas Town we don't make food just so we can look at it!" He joked before grinning crookedly! He was glad that she was in awe!

Alice: Her mouth hung open for a moment before she bit her lip and smiled. They really weren't too different, she supposed! She started to help herself, very ladylike or, what her mother considered to be. Quite honestly she was salivating from just the thought of REAL food their whole entire trip, so it took a lot of willpower to not just breath in the whole platter!! She did, as subtly as possible, refrain from the meat!!!

Cain took note of this and made up for it by taking a little extra meat himself! He hoped she wouldn't be offended, but something told him she wasn't the type to get offended easily with things like this. Or maybe that was wishful thinking.
He paced himself to eat just as quickly (or as slowly) as Alice- an old habit of his dating back to when he was a child and didn't want to be first or last at the table.
"How is everything?" he asked between bites. To him, of course, it was delicious, but there was a reason he'd chosen to take her here, of course!

Alice: As much as she just wanted to peck at the whole thing, years of restrained eating practice forbade her! Such a pity! Still, she didn't respond for a quite deal of time, just because it was such a treasure to eat real food, and in such a magnificent setting, too!! She closed her eyes and nodded as she just tried to take in as much flavor as absolutely possible- she wanted to remember it--just in case things didn't work out... Not that she figured it wouldn't but, you could never be too sure!!
"Woonderful!!" She exclaimed in excitement, realizing how rude she had been! "Much better now!" She giggled like a child and her curls bounce. She brought her hands over her lips because she just remembered she had been chewing- so rude! After a moment she laughed it off and looked up at him, "And you? I heard the academy has more students this year! Sinsir claims you have 'all the good cookies'- imagine that!"

Cain: Thoroughly satisfied with her answer, he grinned crookedly and chuckled a bit! She was positively divine!
"I'm doing quite well! The more, the merrier, that's what I always say! I don't know about that, though. I do have a nephew in the University, after all! Not only that, but I've heard about some of the shenanigans the university students get into- that sounds like such fun!" He ate between sentences, but not for too long- he was here for Alice, after all.

Alice: She covered her mouth while she chewed, to Halloween with the "No talking with your mouth full" thing!!
"It's fun, I wager, if you're a student! Not so much on the flipside, actually! Speaking of shenanigans, one of Sinsir's own students is determined to join your nephew in their fraternity, sadly, she's a girl!" She laughed, "She begged me to let in her nearly daily before finally settling for a sorority of her own, too! I love it, but those girls get out of hand, rather quickly! You wouldn't believe how they go out of their way just to spite the fellow Greek Life, it's near amazing and disappointing!" She smiled and took another drink of her coffee, "It's never boring, however, and I do have them to thank for that!! The strangest thing though, is that not only is the University's toilet paper supply has been at an all time low, but Annice can't seem to find any of her eggs, too. Could you even imagine?"
She knew the cause, don't get her wrong, but she couldn't help but to play innocent, "I can't ever imagine what happened to THOSE!"
She ate for a minute before looking up at Cain, "Do you have any stories then, from your school days, as a student?" She wiped her mouth with a napkin, "Other than falling off roofs, darling!"
