Raphael: "I'm so sorry," he said, his eyebrows furrowing. He wanted to hug him again, but now they were in separate chairs. When Geoffrey asked him, his face going all upset, Raphael looked away. He didn't sound angry, but he didn't look happy either.
"I skimmed it," he admitted. "I wasn't trying to pry, but I was concerned. You'd disappeared, and it was laying out on the ground." He opened the hiding place he'd stuffed it in, in the table. "No one else has seen it." he assured him.

Geoffrey shook his head. "It's alright." He picked up the letter and sighed, forehead creasing as he turned it over to the back. He read aloud.
"Your irresponsibility and blatant disregard of the family has given us no other choice but to cut you out of the family. Your elder sister will be taking the position that was once bestowed upon you, and any money you have need of will not be coming from the family fund. You may return my ring with the family crest on it at a time of your convenience.... and that's... the... how you say, long and short of it, I suppose." He sighed. "It's nothing I didn't deserve." Remembering the ring, he pulled at the chain he kept hidden around his neck, looping it over his head before looking at it closely. After a moment, he dropped the ring into the middle of the letter, folding the paper around it and setting it aside. He wondered if they'd even remembered it was his birthday- not that he had, mind you, but...
